2004    Sabbatical Art and Research, National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Kauai, Hawaii.  Created sculpture, and design photographs working directly from tropical botanical plants and researched the ethnobotany of the Hawaiian people

ASIAN STUDIES DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM OF THE EAST-WEST CENTER AND UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII

2003     National Conference of the Asian Studies Development Program of the East-West Center and University of Hawaii (held in Scottsdale, Arizona). I was selected to present Travels to the Pacific Rim:  Influences on the Form and Spirit of My Art.

1999     National Conference of the Asian Studies Development Program of the East-West Center and Univ. of Hawaii (held at Middlesex Community College, MA)

1998     Asian Studies Development Program, East -West Center and the University of Hawaii Selected and received Grant to attend the summer institute, Infusing Asian Studies Into The Curriculum, at the East -West Center.

1997     East-West Center, University of Hawaii, and Middlesex Community College, 3 day conference Japan’s Enduring Culture: Past, Present, and Future

NEW ZEALAND

2001-2002 Marion and Jasper Whiting Foundation Fellowship, to research The Art of the Pacific Rim, traveling to museums and sites in New Zealand.

MEXICO

2002      I conducted Art Workshops, by invitation of the University of Coahuila, School of Fine Arts with the coordination of Paleontology, Saltillo, Mexico, and I participated in a Dinosaur Dig.

2001      Guest Speaker, Songs Of A Muse at the Cultural Center “Vito Alessio Robles” special event, by invitation of the Governor of the State of Coahuila and the Secretary of Public Education of Coahuila with the coordination of Paleontology, Saltillo, Mexico. I participated in a Dinosaur Dig.

INDONESIA

1996     Sabbatical travel to Indonesia (Bali, Borneo, Java, Rinca, Komodo, Sumba,Sumbawa) to study art and culture.
